New technologies increasing gas competitiveness

There has been a general trend over the last 10 years for gas companies, particularly those in liberalised markets, to reduce R&D expenditure. Given the strategic challenges facing the gas industry, it is time to reconsider the level of R&D expenditure and its business focus and there by changing the slope of the decreasing trend of R&D support.

IGRC 2008 Dan Dolec Award
The Dan Dolec Prize for Best Paper was granted this time to two papers. The winners had to share the ten thousand euros: Dominique Gueugnaut from GDF SUEZ did fundamental work on the permeability of methane hydrogen mixtures in polyethylene gas pipes used in gas distribution networks; Takahide Haneda from Tokyo Gas developed a gasification system for sewage sludge and proved in practice with a full scale plant the expected contribution to greenhouse gas reduction (see the poster).
